I don't see any reason why one should expose _send() to untrusted code.

I'm sorry, function _send does exactly what I need. It is declared as private, but may be called from trusted code.

Please give a detailed description of your usecase and explain what MailHost is doing wrong and why it does not work for you.

It would be nice to have function send_raw in MailHost to send e-mail without any modifications (no mail headers modifications). Some products needs this functionality and they have to use own smtplib implementation to do this. 

Extension implementations (MaildropHost for example) are unusable in case of third party product is using own smtp communication.
