I have Indexed Attributes set to:  "SearchableText,data" 
Without specifically listing 'data' it wasn't picking up my Word, PDF, etc
docs either.

I'm using Plone 1.0.4, Zope 2.6.2b4 and TextIndexNG 2.01 (though my
experience was similar with earlier versions as well)
