Finally getting around to reading all this. I think it'd probably do 
well with Google if the summer of code students of two different 
projects can work together like this.  It'd be a good thing to mention 
this in your reports. :)

At least, I'm extrapolating from the fact that this does well for me - 
it's an important part of open source development to look for synergies 
(forgive me the use of this word) between projects. This might lead to 
common design patterns or shared code, and more developer eyeballs per 
line of code as well.
