If you want to get rid of dev-rXXX junk, please help. JW, Luciano and 
myself already put many hours into this, but it's not trivial to 
eliminate it.

I don't like hearing the release was rushed: we spent a couple of days 
on it already, longer than we originally had planned. I recall you 
yourself saying we shouldn't change any package dependencies from what 
we already had in this release. That's what we did.
