Maybe an operator set the mode of the channel to private or secret so
it does not get listed?

We need the operator of the channel to step forward. Maybe JW (he's
taking care of the logging)?
Issuing the command /names does not result in one of the names being
preceded with an at-sign (@) to indicate a channel operator.

This needs to be done by a channel operator, too, using the command
/topic

Using the command
/mode +o <some_nickname>

the person with <some_nickname> becomes operator, too, and the burden
of managing the channel can be shared.
