Andy,

The problem could well be Windows multi-tasking rather than Zope. I run
several
Zopes across reasonably small Linux boxes and have never seen too much
of a
problem system resource-wise.

However -- What do you have in the DB to make it 1.5 Gig? If you've got
some
really big files, you'd be better off sticking them in a Local File
Storage
rather than the ZODB. I had my Intranet manager here put two 100 Meg
Quicktime
movies into our ZODB and it killed things like packing and exporting,
because
it read them entirely into memory several times (or tried to). I moved
the big
guys like that out and have had NO problems of any sort since.
