There have been a couple of distributed object systems for Python -- the
most recent one I've seen an announcement for is Pyro.  I haven't looked
at it all, but I love the name.  See

Of course there's Fnorb and ORB-it for CORBA, and ... umm .. I can't
remember what it was called, but the cross-language DO system that
Guido's gang used for mobile agents... surely Jeremy can refresh my
memory!
