Same for me:

Os X 10.2
python 2.2.1
gcc 3.0

surprisingly the ZODB4 - trunk from the CVS does work with python 
2.2.1. After reinstalling PersistentMapping.py from the ZODB3 even my 
old pickles loaded.
Maybe this works for you too.

Are there any hidden traps within this setup ?
