Actually, my comparison was between the membership part of Shane's
recent proposal (which added acl_users support) and Membership.  In
other words, isn't Membership an already existing sufficient
implementation of part of Shane's PTK breakup?

Shane has indirectly answered that by pointing out that his breakup
would remove the need to subclass User to obtain additional Member
information.  He's right, that would be a good change.
