It's worth browsing around in http://cmf.zope.org/doc
... you'll find that there's a lot of missing and stub docs,
but there are also some useful bits, e.g. this section: 
http://cmf.zope.org/design/system_architecture

from there you can find some handy diagrams and
description of the various tools' interfaces.
