Some light testing on 2.5.0b4 seems to show it working.  I'll try some
more and keep you posted if it starts to fail again.

This sounds like one of the bugs that started in Zope 2.4.X and is fixed
in the combination of Python 2.1.2/Zope 2.5.  Would you be willing to
try your extension under that combination?
