hm... no one has menetioned JPE yet, I see. JPE = the Java Python 
Extension. http://jpe.sourceforge.net/

I think chrisw did some work one ot two years ago with JPE and Lucene.

Looking at the cvs for jpe.sourceforge.net I see that there has not been 
much activity the last 19-20 months, though...
