I have been thinking about the same thing (NL calls are also expensive), maybe 
a 'checkout' of a branch of the object tree would work. Think of it like a RCS 
system. We could of course also take the CVS way, but this will be much harder.
I was more thinking in lines of several people being responsible for separate 
subtrees they would maintain both locally and on the main Zope site. We would 
need some sync process like an 'checkin' with feedback reporting about changes 
outside the subtree.

Zope session could be a tool for this, just 'merge' changes into a seperate 
session and let the fun begin...
