That's because the LINKing is broken in many ways.  At least that's what my
imperical research showed.... things would work if embedded, but not if
linked :/   Stupid, yes, I know, Netscape was much worse than IE in this
regard.

Files are opaque and can not be edited.  You should stuff it in a DTML
document.  One could argue that "files" that have text/* as their MIME type
should be editable, but currently they're not.  I see a patch here :-)
