You also have AddModule mod_rewrite.c right?

from your traceback it seems there is no %1 there (so no HTTP
Authorization headers)
I experienced the same problem, still unsolved - because of the rewrite
all the headers
are changed to REDIRECT_* -- but I also sow the python code(in Zope)
which *was* dealing
with this.
