[Zope] first time - superuser authentication

i found the answer to my own problems.  It turns out that i had several
processes running.  This seems to be because /etc/rc.d/init.d/zope
stop|restart does not successfully stop the server processes, but does
start another.  i'll look into the startup scripts some more to see if i
can determine the reason for this.  Thanks for everyone's help.
