Modern browsers usually understand the charset attribute (and IIRC the 
default charset for HTML defined in spec is ISO-8859-1 not MAC ;).

so just put
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html;CHARSET=iso-8859-1">

in <head> section and you should be ok
