[Zope] extreme newbie questions

You haven't said anything about browser, server platform, or client
platform.  It sounds like you are running Internet Explorer with "User
Friendly Error Message"  (which are anything but).  

And it sounds like either the zope server is not running, or there is a
DNS problem.

Check both.  Can you ping the machine?  (If so, DNS is OK.)
Is the server running?  (I can't tell you how to tell without knowing
your platform.)
