Standards are good.
Standards should be followed.
Standards do not mandate good design.

Good, clean, simple design first.
Then implement it in a standard-compliant way.

I would like to make standards conformance a requirement of a good ZMI 
design.  Standards conformance does not a good design make, however... 
Show me a good design and then show me one that validates.
