Nice one Kit - there are some really good ideas going on in your 
attachment.

This is a really great feature of PNG that we should exploit, 
especially in regard to background colours changing with skins - no 
more nasty GIF dithering!

Agreed, there are some excellent quasi-XML elements available to 
Illustrator, where we could setup the icons as base art, and batch 
process colour scheme changes (for rollovers or interface colour 
changes) [separation of content and style meets images ;-)]

A style guide of sorts is needed, but it should probably pertain to the 
entire appearance of the Zope3, rather than just the icons
