You can't abandon any talk of what this 'thing' is. What are you going to 
call a list of such things? What if you want to tell someone to install 
something? What if I need to install the XML thingy? A rather 
unrealistic proposition in my mind..

Are people going to call them 'externals'?  'extra stuff'? Oh, I'm 
running Zope but in order to do anything with it I need to install 
something external.

Let's use a word that has an actual meaning to people. 'Extension' and 
'Application' do actually mean something to many people. 'External' is 
just going to give us a new word for 'product' if we're not careful. 
We can't go and propose a kind of newspeak and ignore the word just because
we can't agree on a good name for it.

Anyway, I personally think there's nothing wrong with the words 
'Zope Extension' and 'Zope Application', where the latter is usually
composed of (or at least uses) some of the former.
