Hi,

Since SchoolTool/SchoolBell was mentioned on this list a few times
recently, I think it would be a good idea to briefly explain what it is
and why it might be interesting to Zope 3 users.

SchoolBell is an open-source calendaring server that lets you manipulate
calendars on with your web browser, or with a calendaring client like
Mozilla Sunbird or Apple's iCal, by manipulating iCalendar files over
WebDAV. It is a spinoff of the SchoolTool project that aims to build a
school administration system.

The latest release, SchoolBell 0.9 was built on a mixture of Twisted and
Zope 3 libraries. The upcoming 1.0 release will be a Zope 3 application.
we plan to have both a standalone schoolbell app that uses Zope 3
internally and hides the ZMI, and to allow adding schoolbell instances
as object to Zope 3 sites).

Now comes the interesting part: SchoolBell 1.0 will include reusable
libraries that will let you add calendaring to your own Zope 3
applications. For a sneak preview, take a look at these README files
(with embedded doctests) in our source repository:

  http://source.schooltool.org/viewcvs/trunk/schooltool/src/schoolbell/calendar/README.txt?view=auto

  http://source.schooltool.org/viewcvs/trunk/schooltool/src/schoolbell/relationship/README.txt?view=auto

We're aiming for a time-based release with a feature freeze in February,
and a final release in March. This is an open source project, so if you
want to see a particular feature in that release, feel free to
contribute.
