Yes, it is easy to run into when taken outside of Zope.  If nobody is
using strictinsert=True, then perhaps the whole mess should be
removed.  I don't think changing the default is out of the question,
either.

I'll send a note to the ZPT list to see if anyone there is interested
in keeping strictinsert=True.  (Anyone here who's interested in it
should speak up as well!)
