The use case of experimenting with different formats could also be 
approached using a pre-processor approach for ZCML. That ZCML is an XML 
dialect makes such a thing easier, as XML generation is a well 
understood problem.

So, the use case of experimenting with other formats doesn't really need 
this proposal.
