This is what 'nocall' was invented for.  There seems to be growing sentiment
for putting it back in, but in the meantime you can use Python:

tal:define="obj python:getattr(here, 'whoweare.html')">

Yecch.  Actually, in your case you can avoid the nastiness by writing:

tal:define="obj_title here/whoweare.html/title"

...but this isn't a solution in general.
