Thanks ... that fixed the problem.

BTW, the Modules/Setup file for Python2.2 doesn't mention the newer
version of expat. Here are the changes I made to Setup to use the
newer version of expat:

$EXPAT = "EXPAT_DIR=$pfx/expat/expat-$PKG{expat}{ver}"; 
mysystem("$perl -i -pe 's!^#EXPAT_DIR=/usr/local/src/expat!$EXPAT!' ./Modules/Setup.dist"); 
mysystem("$perl -i -pe 's!^#pyexpat !pyexpat pyexpat.c -DHAVE_EXPAT_H -I\\\$(EXPAT_DIR)/include -L\\\$(EX\PAT_DIR)/lib -lexpat #!' ./Modules/Setup.dist");
