I've been away so I missed out on this thread -- but I do want to
followup on a point:

We're building a fairly large business application using Zope 3. I've
been the lead developer (well, pretty much the only developer :-) on
this for the last several months.

IMO, Zope X3 is very usable as a development platform. As Stephan
mentioned in another reply, even the radical geddons* have had very
little impact on existing source. In all cases where code needed to
change, the mods were a substantial improvement and well worth the small
effort.

The only caveat I have is that you should be prepared to face a learning
curve without the help of comprehensive documentation. What's there is
excellent, but at times you'll have to sink some time into figuring
something out. Keep in mind, however, that there are several developers
on this list who have a lot of experience with this framework and you
can always post something to this list.

Finally, and not to blow too much smoke, but Jim and crew are running a
very enlightened project, at least IMO. They're respectful of existing
projects/code, which is why the geddons* have gone so smoothly.

So, if you have an inclination to jump in with ZX3, I highly recommend
it :-)
