You have that wrong. Zope 2 served the scripter very well. Many
non-programmers were *very* sucessful with Zope 2. In many ways, Zope 2
was more successful for the scripter than for the developer.
A failure in Zope 2, that we're not going to make in Zope 3, is that
it failed to recognize that the scripter and the developer were two
*different* kinds of users. Developers fell into the trap of using tools
that suited the scriptors. As Zope 2 evolved, we introduced more discipline
through things like Python scripts and ZPT. This helped the developer but
it often hurt the scripter. In Zope 3, we'll make a clearer distinction
between the two and provide clear guidence on when one should switch from
one mode of work (not development ;) to another.
