On the other hand, and while Cocoon is powerful, I'd like to point out two
UI oriented technologies that as far as I define it, do not use any sort of
pipe notion:

- Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
- Java Server Faces

Of course of the two, CSS is much more popular at this point, though Java
Server Faces appears to be gaining traction.  CSS makes heavy use of both
hierarchies and inheritance.
