Ob. note:  this thread is really OT for the zope3-dev list.

The requirement for backward compatibility for ZClasses is *the* single
biggest reason for the delay, because nobody in the community except Jim
can work on that problem.

I would argue at this point that ZClass-using sites could wait for a
2.9, if it meant that we could release 2.8 sooner.  Perhaps such a
strategy would also remove the need to force Zope 2.8 to wait for ZODB
3.4, which apparently is a prerequisite for fixing ZClasses.
