[Zope-Perl] pyperl installation clue, please

Using:

 Solaris 2.7
 ActiveState Perl Binary build 623 (18:08:36 Dec 15 2000)
 Python 2.1 (#1, Apr 25 2001, 20:17:07)

Python-Object build went rather well, but "python setup.py install"
didn't. I eventually got this:

 ld: fatal: relocations remain against allocatable but non-writable sections
 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
 error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

Clues? I'm not sure I can apply patches to a binary build of perl.

Should I just get perl-5.6.1 from ActiveState instead, or is this a
completely different situation?
