In a comment to a post of Martijn's blog
(http://faassen.n--tree.net/blog/view/weblog/2005/03/17/0#comments),
I have given a concrete example of the types of issues we get with fuzzy
time-based release process.

We (at the Paris sprint -- Zope, CPS, Silva, Plone core actors) have
been working hard on 2.8 to get it alpha-ed again as soon as possible.
This has been both on looking at all diffs between 2.7 and 2.8 to check
they had landed in 2.8 as well as on integrating Five (in its specific
branch as most of you know).

In case we need to wait for X3.1, there will be monthes again before we
get 2.8 out.

We need a fixed time release process. Release 2.8 now with X3.0. Later,
the best way to avoid long time async between Zope 2 and Zope 3 is to
get 2.9 out quickly after X3.1 will land. In order to do this, there
needs to be some "benevolent dictatorship" on X3 releases as well : IOW
instead of "trying to wrap up new features", new features have to be
done by April 2 or they won't be in X3 should be the process imho.
